A 5000-Mile Journey in Support of Mesothelioma UK
Date: 16/05/24
As the UK's leading independent SHEQ consultancy, specialising in asbestos assurance, everyone at iON Consultants takes great pride in announcing our corporate partnership with Mesothelioma UK. Established in 2004, this national charity exists to support those affected by mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, live longer and better lives.
At iON Consultants, we provide a dedicated consultancy service for Duty Holders, Consultants and Contractors. Our mission is to raise industry standards, promote ethical business practices and cultivate a sustainable and reliable safety culture. Having experienced the devastating impact of mesothelioma through the tragic loss of several colleagues and associates to the disease, we are proud to stand alongside Mesothelioma UK in its mission to support patients and their families.
The charity offers direct access to specialist nurses in hospitals throughout the UK, ensuring timely support at the moment it's most needed. It also facilitates access to clinical trials and advanced treatments for those affected. This work reduces unplanned admissions and improves patients' quality of life.
We have set ourselves the ambitious target of raising £5,000 for Mesothelioma UK over the next 12 months. We hope to achieve this through a collective team effort of walking, running, cycling and swimming a total of 5,000 miles. This initiative will not only help us give back to the communities in which we operate but will also highlight the importance of working together to tackle major health challenges.
"We are deeply committed to supporting Mesothelioma UK and raising awareness of a disease that can be difficult to diagnose and therefore deadly," said John Evison, co-founder and director of iON Consultants. "Through our fundraising efforts we hope to honour the memory of those we have lost and contribute to the invaluable work of Mesothelioma UK. We will be providing regular updates on our progress by sharing stories, milestones and challenges along the way on our LinkedIn page.”
As well as logging their miles walking, running, cycling and swimming, team members are taking part in a number of physically challenging events. Pete Cottam, Catherine Howard, Helen McIntyre and Callum Skene all successfully completed the Excalibur 10k in the Clwydian Range of North Wales in May. Pete will be running the 13 Valleys Half Marathon in September and the Lady Bower 24k in October. Helen will be swimming full lengths of Ullswater, Coniston and Windermere this summer, as well as a 13k swim in the Thames.
