The Client 

Müller is one of the nation's favourite dairy brands, sourcing milk from 1,300 British farmers to produce a wide range of branded and private-label products for the UK food market. Müller operates from several sites across the UK, including depots and dairies. Its food manufacturing operations are predominantly located in the West Midlands. 

The Challenge 

In recent years, Müller has significantly expanded and modernised its operations to meet the global demand for its food products. As a result, the company has invested heavily in expanding, redeveloping and refurbishing its ageing estate. Müller's project team approached us to help them achieve CDM compliance for various upgrade projects. The scale of the work across several sites and the need for multiple contractors presented a number of logistical challenges. Our role was to eensure that all projects were being managed effectively to limit any impact on the company's operational performance. 

iON’s Solution 

We were commissioned to conduct an initial review of Müller's CDM compliance, resulting in us recommending improvements, which were implemented through an action plan. This led to our appointment as CDM Consultants, acting as the Client Advisor, Principal Designer Advisor and Principal Designer on various projects. 

We were embedded in each project team, providing the necessary advice and support, from planning and pre-construction to construction, completion and handover. Throughout each project, we provided specific advice on design risk management, the development and review of pre-construction information, the auditing of contractors at each stage of construction, and the completion and review of health and safety files. Additional support was provided for other compliance requirements, including asbestos risk management.
